The purpose of this presentation is to familiarize providers
of family planning and maternal and child health (FP/MCH) with
basic STD concepts. The presentation is divided into three sections.
The first section contains general introductory information
about the STD global epidemic. The second section contains information
about STD prevention. The last section covers STD management
issues.
Section I: STDs: An Overview
Section I introduces the subject of STDs. It describes the
scope of the STD problem globally and reviews the consequences
of STDs. It discusses public health strategies and program level
activities for preventing and managing STDs.
Section II: STD Prevention
Section II discusses STD prevention activities that all FP/MCH
services can provide.
Section III: STD Management
Section III describes approaches to the diagnosis and treatment
of STDs, focusing on the syndromic management approach.
This learning module is expected to take 90 to 120 minutes
to complete. You may want to divide the material into two or
more sessions to allow time for review and breaks.
