Studies indicate that providers often do not give clients the
information they need to use the chosen method correctly.
In a study in Kenya, for example, providers did not explain
when to begin taking oral contraceptives in half of their counseling
sessions with new users. Also, they told only one third of the
clients what to do if they missed a pill.
In addition, the providers did not routinely check to see whether
the client understood and remembered information about using
the pill.
