Client-Provider Interaction: Summary

Learner Activity

Optional Activity: Developing Strategies to Improve Client-Provider Interaction in Your Programs

Think of examples of specific actions that can be taken to improve client-provider interaction in your programs. Write examples on a sheet of paper.

Possible specific actions include:

  1. Ensure training of staff in counseling

  2. Educate staff in client-provider interaction

  3. Create information, education and communication (IEC) support materials

  4. Review organization's mission, goals and structure regarding client-provider interaction

  5. Determine factors that motivate staff

  6. Assess logistical and financial capacity

  7. Develop working relationships (team building) of staff

From the list of actions, choose those that you would like to see implemented at your organization and develop an action plan to include tasks needed to accomplish the action, persons responsible and timelines. After you develop an action plan, identify potential problems and think of possible solutions.
