Learner Activity

Slide 22 Activity

On a sheet of paper, write down examples of questions you ask your clients.

Include both open- and closed-ended questions.

Open-ended questions cannot be answered by a "yes," or "no" and allow the client to expound on issues. (Example: What brings you here today?)

Closed-ended questions elicit only a one- or two-word response. (Example: Do you want a family planning method?)

Write down what kind of information you would expect to get in response to each question you listed. Do the closed-ended questions produce only a limited amount of specific information? Do the open-ended questions solicit reflection and result in more in-depth information from the client?

Refer to your questions as you read the following slides. How can you improve upon the questions you ask your clients?
