This module is divided into seven sections.
First, it describes the impact of the HIV/AIDS
epidemic on women and children.
Second, it explores the important role that family
planning plays in helping to alleviate the burden
of HIV and reinforces the need to ensure that all
women and couples have access to contraceptives and
reproductive health services.
Next comes an examination of the reproductive choices
faced by women and couples with HIV.
The fourth section provides a brief overview of
ARV therapy and describes the benefits and concerns
related
to providing contraceptives to women on ARV therapy.
The fifth section discusses how to ensure that
the family planning needs of clients with HIV are
met.
The sixth section describes contraceptive options
available to women with HIV and how their HIV status
affects their eligibility for various methods.
The final section discusses the providers’ role
in ensuring that women with HIV are able to make
informed, voluntary decisions about having children
and using contraception.
