Although age is one way of defining the young adult population,
it may not be the most important factor when considering the
reproductive health needs of young adults. Other factors to
consider are: marital status, gender norms, whether sexual relations
have begun, whether young people are in or out of school, whether
they have already had a child or an abortion, their economic
status, whether they live in a rural or urban setting, peer
pressure, and political and cultural
climates.
