Four major storms have hit the small island nation of Haiti so far this hurricane season, leaving more than 750 dead and destroying or damaging 55,000 homes, according to the Haitian government.
In recent years, those of us living in the United States have become increasingly familiar
with the devastation caused by hurricanes. In poor countries like Haiti, the recovery
process is even more challenging. Haiti already suffers from extreme poverty and
has been hard hit by the global food crisis. Most Haitians subsist on less then $2 a day.
Due to FHI’s long history of working with families in Haiti, it was asked at the
2008
Clinton Global Initiative annual meeting to help speed recovery for children
