Family Health International is a leader in research about the female condom. We have tested the safety and efficacy of the female condom in protecting women from STIs and unintended pregnancy; studied ways of best introducing this method into family planning programs; and shown that the number of protect sex acts rises when female condoms are offered along with male condoms.
Many women's advocates and policy-makers see the female condom as a significant alternative that women can use to better protect themselves against HIV/STIs.
