Honduras

FHI has worked with governmental and nongovernmental organizations alike to improve reproductive health in Honduras through collaborative research, capacity-building training, and the provision of technical assistance. We have conducted health economics research to help family planning programs increase sustainability, provided training on the reproductive-health effects of domestic violence, and worked to reduce maternal and child mortality through initiatives to improve health care facilities and services.

From the late 1990s until 2005, FHI helped the Government of Honduras strengthen its AIDS prevention activities. Through the IMPACT Project, FHI led initiatives to reduce risk and change behavior; enhanced prevention, care and treatment services; and strengthened monitoring and evaluation. IMPACT collaborated with the local umbrella nongovernmental organization Fundación Fomento en Salud, the Ministry of Health and others to coordinate workshops and foster dialogue on HIV/AIDS and policy in Honduras.

FHI Works with Private Sector to Promote Safe and Effective Vasectomy

In Honduras, FHI is providing technical assistance to PSP-One, a USAID project that aims to increase the private sector's provision of high-quality reproductive health and family planning services in developing countries. Specifically, we are helping PSP-One monitor and evaluate their efforts to promote vasectomy, which include training physicians in the no-scalpel technique and reimbursing them the same amount as they receive for performing female sterilization.
