
Cocoa Farming Community Reached with HIV Prevention
APRIL 2009 — "Building and Strengthening Health and Wellness Activities for the Sustainable Tree Crops Program (STCP)" was an 18-month project aimed at improving the health of rural cocoa farmers through community education and mobilization activities relating to HIV/AIDS and malaria. The project's anchor initiative was the "farmer field school", a training program sponsored by STCP that engaged the cocoa farming communities in both countries in quality cocoa production and crop marketing.

MARCH 2009 — This year, to celebrate International Women's Day, FHI/Cote d'Ivoire sponsored a sensitization workshop for prominent women leaders. The goal was to foster awareness of issues relating to HIV and AIDS and encourage the women to build awareness in their own communities.

FHI Supports Expansion, Strengthening of HIV/AIDS Services
FHI/Côte d'Ivoire works with the national government and non-governmental organizations to expand and strengthen clinical services for highly vulnerable populations and those affected by HIV/AIDS.

FHI Partners with Hershey to Prevent Malaria in Côte d'Ivoire
DECEMBER 2008 — Beginning next month, FHI and The Hershey Company will distribute 3,000 insecticide-treated bednets to families, especially to those most vulnerable to malaria — pregnant women and children under 5. Recipients will also be taught how to use and re-treat the bednets.

Palliative Care Taskforce and National Strategy Documents
FEBRUARY 2007 — In collaboration with the Cote d'Ivoire Ministry of Health, FHI assisted in the creation of a national palliative care taskforce, which it also runs. The taskforce responds to the need for a coordinated approach, and greater collaboration between program partners and people living with HIV/AIDS, as well as between the government and NGOs.
