Central Asia Republics
From the early to mid-1990s, FHI helped governments in Central Asia, Eastern Europe and the former Soviet Union launch and strengthen their AIDS prevention activities.
Supporting the Ministries of Health, we trained physicians and healthcare providers in Kazakstan, Kyrgyzstan, Tajikistan and Uzbekistan. We also conducted workshops on research strategies and assessed and built the capacity of local nongovernmental organizations. In Ukraine, through the IMPACT Project, FHI helped USAID design programs for those most vulnerable and difficult to reach. FHI has also worked in Azerbaijan, Russia and Turkmenistan.
