YouthNet Partner: RTI

RTI International, a key YouthNet partner, has a long and successful record of collaborating with public, non-governmental, and private sector institutions in the fields of health, population municipal finance, education, and the environment. RTI's ability to forge productive and collaborative relationships with a broad range of government, academic, private, and other civic institutions has been instrumental in its success in achieving sustainable development. Much of the policy reform work done by RTI staff has been in social sector reform in the context of economic, political, fertility, and demographic change.

RTI staff bring extensive experience dealing with real-world issues and the ramifications upon societies and often their most vulnerable members. For example, RTI has carried out extensive AIDS research, provided expert technical assistance, and conducted more than 50 AIDS projects in six broad study areas - education, prevention and treatment, epidemiology/surveillance, financing and delivery of services, therapeutic intervention, and economics/modeling. Currently RTI staff work with counterparts on HIV/AIDS research and technical assistance projects in Latin America, Asia, Africa, North America, and Europe.

RTI has extensive experience investigating problems common to adolescents, including alcohol and drug use, violence, and unprotected sexual behavior. Our public health experts are interested particularly in the epidemiology and prevention of co-occurring risk behaviors. In addition, we specialize in studying high-risk adolescent populations, including runaway and homeless youth. Our teams combine the skills of survey specialists, statisticians, substantive experts, and epidemiologists to ensure innovative, scientifically rigorous, and well-executed studies.

RTI staff bring experience, passion, and ideological commitment to their work with policymakers, planners, and implementers in search of practical solutions to often overwhelming problems.

Many RTI staff concentrate on the often most vulnerable segment of any society: its youth. Areas of expertise include:

  • Education sector reform
  • Risk behavior prevention and epidemiology
  • Needs assessment
  • Runaway and homeless youth
