Human research ethics rest on three basic principles: respect, beneficence, and justice.  These principles comprise the foundation of all regulations or guidelines governing research ethics and transcend all geographic, cultural, economic, legal, and political boundaries.

Family Health International (FHI) conducts research and programs in accordance with these international ethical principles, provides technical assistance to partners in the conduct of ethical (medical and behavioral) research, and develops materials that provide guidance in establishing, monitoring, and maintaining high ethical standards in conducting projects or research involving people.

Training Materials

The Research Ethics Training Curriculum, developed by Family Health International (FHI), provides guidance for international researchers on the establishment of universal ethical standards in designing and implementing research involving human participants.

The Research Ethics Training Curriculum for Community Representatives was designed by FHI specifically to educate community representatives about their roles and responsibilities so that they have a stronger voice before, during, and after the research process.
