FHI Awarded AIDSTAR Contract

Women and Children, by Jim DanielsJUNE 2007 — FHI and its partners are among seven prime contractors selected to implement USAID's AIDS Support and Technical Assistant Resources (AIDSTAR) indefinite quantity contract. With a projected shared ceiling of $500 million, the AIDSTAR award will provide critical technical assistance and implementation support in the prevention, treatment, and care of the more than 10 million people affected by HIV in resource-constrained settings worldwide.

"The AIDSTAR award is further evidence of our long-term commitment to joining forces with partners who share our dedication to reducing the impact of AIDS among the world's most vulnerable populations," said Peter Lamptey, FHI's president of Public Health Programs.

The FHI team represents more than 10,000 experts in key AIDSTAR technical areas, and will focus on aspects including

• prevention and mitigation
• treatment
• antiretroviral therapy
• integration of reproductive health and tuberculosis with HIV
• interventions for youth
• stigma and discrimination
• gender
• program-related data collection and analysis
• technical capacity building and system strengthening

FHI's world-class technical partners have decades of experience managing multi-year, multimillion dollar projects for the US government and others. FHI partners include Emerging Markets Group, the Global Network of People Living with HIV/AIDS, the Institute of Tropical Medicine, Joint Commission International, Klett Consulting Group, the Salvation Army World Service Office, and Social Impact.

AIDSTAR creates a global funding mechanism in which requesting the services of leading organizations is streamlined and efficient. FHI's AIDSTAR partnership is available to USAID missions, other US government agencies, and the Global Fund.

FHI's consortium will support efforts to improve access to high-quality HIV services and document best practices and approaches while providing technical and management services (view a brochure describing our capabilities).
