Family Health International (FHI) works with service providers, community health workers, researchers, trainers, policymakers, and program managers in host-country institutions and international organizations to improve research and services in reproductive health and HIV/AIDS prevention and care. FHI staff have strengthened capacity and provided technical assistance in training and education in more than 100 countries.
FHI's overall training and education approach is based in behavior change communication theory. It incorporates participatory, interactive, and competency-based methodologies and meets specific health needs at the regional, national, and community level. This approach also increases sustainability of skills transferred and improves the capacity of local professionals to train others in specific topics.
FHI has designed and implemented training workshops and courses in areas such as health and family life education; capacity building; operations research; program management and supervision; gender integration; qualitative research; scientific paper writing; and news reporting on health.
