SEPTEMBER 2008 — Knowledge, Attitudes, and Practices Survey of Workers in Qualified Industrial Zones and Small Businesses in Jordan reports on a USAID-supported survey of workers in qualifying industrial zones and small business in Jordan who were targeted for behavior change and HIV/AIDS awareness interventions. FHI managed the program and analyzed findings of the survey. Compared to workers not exposed to program interventions, those exposed had more accurate knowledge of modes of HIV transmission and were more willing to share meals and work alongside HIV-positive co-workers. However, the survey also revealed that a significant number of workers engaged in risky sex and that misconceptions about HIV/AIDS have not been eliminated. The information presented can assist future efforts to encourage the adoption of preventative behaviors that curtail the spread of HIV/AIDS as well as efforts to reduce high levels of stigma and discrimination against people living with HIV/AIDS in Jordan.
