MAY 2007 – This report summarizes the results of the 2005 Behavioral and Biological Surveillance Study (Bio-BSS) conducted in Tirana, Albania, to inform the country's National AIDS Program strategy and HIV prevention plans.

Data were collected from injecting drug users, men who have sex with men, and the Roma, as well as from the broader Albanian population. The Bio-BSS furnishes baseline measurements of key behavioral and biological indicators and creates a solid foundation for ongoing surveillance of high-risk behaviors and related infections. The Bio-BSS is thus an integral part of the national monitoring and evaluation plan.

USAID/Albania provided financial support for the Bio-BSS. FHI was a member of the working group that designed and managed surveillance activities.
