FHI/Nepal commissioned the study STD and HIV Prevalence Survey Among Female Sex Workers and Truckers to discover the prevalence of sexually transmitted diseases (STDs), STD syndromes, and other related behavioral aspects among sex workers and truckers.
Specifically, the survey measures the prevalence of the following items:
- HIV, gonorrhea, syphilis, chlamydia, trichomonas, and bacterial vaginosis (women only)
- genital ulcers (men and women), urethral discharge (men), vaginal discharge and lower abdominal pain (women)
- Demographic and behavioral correlates: demographic, behavioral and biological correlates to HIV and STD infection
FHI/Nepal intends for the study to contribute to national health priorities by providing critical information on the level of sexually transmitted diseases (STDs), including HIV. The result of the study will also assist in the implementation of current interventions to reduce STDs in these high-risk groups, and their subsequent spread to the general population.
