The Senegal BSS Round 3 report is a second generation surveillance survey that targets specific groups that are likely to serve as "bridges to HIV transmission," including female sex workers and their clients. The BSS report also includes new data on lower-risk groups such as youth.
The BSS 2001 report established a permanent monitoring system to produce data on sociobehavioral trends among target groups and to provide indications of the success of combined prevention initiatives. In addition, the BSS sought to:
-
Identify relevant indicators of and variables in behavior likely to influence the risk of HIV infection
-
Assess the frequency of these indicators among target groups that may significantly impact the spread of HIV
