Since February 2004, the Redeemed Gospel Church and Modu Health Management Centre (MHMC), a local non-governmental organization (NGO), have been operating a nutrition program to help local people living with HIV/AIDS (PLHA).

The program, initiated by Family Health International with funding from the Elton John AIDS Foundation, uses a three-pronged approach to improve the health of PLHA. First, it educates clients on the role of good nutrition and proper hygiene in fighting HIV/AIDS. Group members also learn how to cheaply grow vegetables. Thirdly, members receive free immune booster kits. A full month's kit costs US$22 and contains fortified Nutri-fit flour and Moducare immune system supplement capsules. Clients in the nutrition program also have their CD4 counts monitored each month by a laboratory run by MSF Belgium, an international NGO.
