AUGUST 2009Family Health International and its partners are building the capacity of civil society organizations in Ethiopia to provide a comprehensive response to HIV/AIDS. Through the Dutch-funded project described in this publication, FHI supports partners to develop a home- and community-based care (HCBC) model and has scaled it up to serve 14 urban areas throughout Ethiopia. The model enables local NGOs to support volunteer caregivers who provide direct support to households with chronically ill members. Through this HCBC model, care has been provided to more than 22,000 chronically ill and bedridden patients.
