AUGUST 2007 — Between 2004 and 2007, the Implementing AIDS Prevention and Care (IMPACT) Project made important contributions to the national effort to reduce the spread of HIV and mitigate its effects in Papua New Guinea. The project’s behavior change communication programs and prevention activities targeted at-risk populations and linked them with health services, including voluntary counseling and testing. In addition, IMPACT built local capacity to implement behavioral studies that inform interventions, trained peer educators, and supported self-care for people living with AIDS.
