OCTOBER 2007 — The Implementing AIDS Prevention and Care (IMPACT) Project provided critically important assistance to FHI's Asia Regional Program to increase access to prevention interventions for most-at-risk populations, as well as care, support, and treatment for people living with AIDS and their families.

The project helped develop a manual for reducing drug-related harm in Asia, introduced new guidelines and capacity building, training, and technical assistance related to behavioral surveillance; provided workshops on strengthening HIV prevention programs; and developed strategies for comprehensive prevention and care interventions and guidelines and training programs to improve the capacity of healthcare personnel to provide prevention and care services.

The Asia Regional Program also helped establish a national network of people living with AIDS in India and supported other networks in the region; and helped initiate and expand access to HIV-related treatment, including antiretroviral therapy. The program also initiated, funded, and tested new technologies, methodologies, and model development for HIV prevention. It served a bridging agent in the region, filling gaps in activities and programs and providing technical assistance.
