JULY 2007 In Ukraine, the USAID-funded Implementing AIDS Prevention and Care (IMPACT) Project increased knowledge of HIV and HIV prevention and improved the technical capacity of local NGO responses to HIV/AIDS. Efforts targeted the NGOs HIV-prevention activities and their capacity to provide quality HIV services and information about STIs, and also helped them gain understanding of the theory and practice of behavior change communication. In addition, the project worked to develop harm-reduction activities for injecting drug users and commercial sex workers.
