This report on the Kuala Lumpur Monitoring the AIDS Pandemic (MAP) Network Symposium, an official satellite symposium of the 5th International Congress on AIDS in Asia and the Pacific, describes the status of and the current and projected trends in HIV/AIDS epidemics in the world's most populous region. Representing the consensus of 40 international experts, it includes an analysis of the factors driving epidemics among the more vulnerable populations in Asia and the Pacific and recommendations for improving the quality and quantity of the available data on HIV/AIDS and the effectiveness of prevention and care programs.
