FHI/IMPACT focuses its technical assistance and support in the following areas:
- Behavior Change Interventions (BCI): FHI assists local partners in implementing effective peer education programs in the workplace, with commercial sex workers, with women in low-income communities, and in schools. These interventions include developing curricula for primary schools, popular youth outreach, and general information campaigns. FHI also assists with interactive radio programs that target particular communities, reinforcing interpersonal and group communication activities.
- Interventions to improve delivery of prevention and comprehensive care services: FHI works to establish and strengthen STI clinical services and outreach efforts, voluntary counseling and testing (VCT), prevention of mother-to-child transmission (MTCT) of HIV, diagnosis and treatment of tuberculosis and other opportunistic infections, and provision of clinic-based HIV/AIDS care and antiretroviral therapy.
- Community-based HIV/AIDS mitigation interventions: These interventions involve home-based care, psychological support, support for orphans and vulnerable children, and nutrition and positive living support for people living with HIV/AIDS (PLHWA).
- Support interventions: FHI is helping our partners to establish, upgrade, and manage resource centers to provide policymakers and program managers with the latest information on HIV/AIDS, and to improve research and surveillance efforts through behavioral surveillance surveys (BSS) and other evaluative research.
Strengthening Blood Transfusion Services
FHI/IMPACT has also worked with Kenya's national blood safety program to improve the country's capacity to provide a safe and adequate blood supply to meet the needs created by medical conditions, surgical procedures, accident casualties and natural disasters.
