Four-year project to establish sustainable HIV prevention services for vulnerable populations

DECEMBER 2007 – The Drosos Foundation has awarded FHI a four-year agreement to build the capacity of Waay, a local NGO, to reduce the transmission of HIV among most-at-risk populations. The project will conduct prevention activities among injecting drug users (IDUs) and provide comprehensive care to people infected and affected by HIV/AIDS.

Ford Foundation Project Expands HIV Prevention and Care Services

DECEMBER 2007 — The Ford Foundation has awarded FHI a two-year project to provide HIV/AIDS prevention, care, and support services for most-at-risk populations (MARPs) in Cairo. The Ford Foundation is supporting the partnership between FHI and a selected NGO that concentrates on building its capacity to conduct street-based outreach for MARPs and the establishment of a comprehensive care center.

UNFPA Awards for FHI/Egypt Address Quality Prevention and Treatment and Adolescent Reproductive Health Services

DECEMBER 2007 — Two four-month projects awarded to FHI by the United Nations Population Fund (UNFPA) will enhance HIV/AIDS prevention services and the detection and treatment of sexually transmitted infections (STIs) in Egypt by providing anonymous, high-quality voluntary HIV/AIDS counseling and testing (VCT), and address the shortage of reproductive health services for adolescents in Egypt.

HIV/AIDS Clinical Care Reference Guide for Physicians Published

JANUARY 2007 — FHI/Egypt collaborated with Egypt's Ministry of Health and Population to publish "National HIV/AIDS Clinical Care: A Reference Guide for Physicians." The guide was developed to train doctors working in Egypt in the diagnosis and management of HIV/AIDS, related illnesses and opportunistic infections.
