Q: What software/programs do I need to watch videos on FHI.org?
A: You'll need either RealPlayer, Windows Media Player, or QuickTime Player to watch videos at the FHI website.

Note: For RealPlayer users, video will be downloaded before playing.

Q: How do I get the Windows Media Player?
A: You can download the free Windows Media Player at http://windowsmedia.com/download.

Q: How do I get the RealPlayer?
A: You can download the free RealPlayer at http://www.real.com.

Q: How do I get the QuickTime Player?
A: You can download the free QuickTime player at http://www.apple.com/quicktime/download/.

Q: What media types (files) does FHI use for its videos?
A: Videos on the FHI website are provided in three media types: The Windows Media format (.wmv files), RealMedia format (.rm files) format, and the QuickTime format (.mov files). You can use the Windows Media Player to watch the .wmv videos, the RealPlayer for .ra videos, and QuickTime for .mov videos. The Windows videos should start playing in your player soon after you click the Windows. The RealPlayer videos must be downloaded to your PC in order to be viewed.

Q: What is a media type (file)?
A: A media type is a specific kind of file, such as a RealMedia video file (represented by the .rm extension in the file name). Your computer associates specific media types (files) with specific media players, such as using RealPlayer to play .rm files. For example, when you double-click a RealMedia file on the Web, the RealPlayer automatically opens to play it.

Note: If you make RealPlayer or Windows Media Player your default media player for a media type, that application will open when you click a link to that file of that media type. Making one media player your computer's default media player does not mean that other media players cannot play those files. It only means that the default media player will be used automatically.

Q: How do I change the media types that my current video player uses?
A: Instructions are listed below for RealPlayer and Windows Media Player. Consult your player's Help menu for more information for the particular version of the player you are using.

For RealPlayer:

  1. Start RealPlayer
  2. Select Tools > Preferences from the menu bar
  3. Expand the Content section (click the + sign)
  4. Click Media Types
  5. Select the media types (files) you want RealPlayer to play
  6. Click OK to save your changes

For Windows Media Player:

  2. Select Tools > Options from the menu bar
  3. Click the File Types tab

Q: Why does the Windows Media Player open so big?
A: For your convenience, we've programmed the video to be adjustable. To shrink the player, place your cursor at the bottom right corner until the arrows appear. After the arrows appear, hold down the mouse button and move the cursor inward or outward to select the size of the viewing screen.
