Caring for Pregnant Women with HIV

mother & child clip artSEPTEMBER 2008 — In February 2006, ZPCT embarked on a groundbreaking effort to test CD4 counts and provide complex antiretroviral regimens for pregnant women seeking prevention of mother-to-child transmission services at their community health centers. More HIV+ expectant mothers who visit primary health centers supported by FHI are having their CD4 counts tested and more are going on lifesaving HAART as a result.

FHI/Zambia Documents Benefits of Adherence Support Workers in Care and Treatment Programs

adherence support workerJUNE 2008 — New research carried out by FHI and Zambian Ministry of Health suggests that training community volunteers as adherence support workers (ASWs) is relatively low cost, achieves high-quality results, and may help bridge the human resources gap. Integrated into ZPTC-supported health facilities in Zambia, ASWs are improving their clients' adherence to treatment and the way the facilities function. Faith-Based Regional Initiative for Orphans and Other Vulnerable Children

The Community Faith-Based Regional Initiative for Orphans and Other Vulnerable Children (FABRIC) is a five-year partnership between FHI and three umbrella faith-based organizations in Namibia, South Africa and Zambia. The objective of the program is to strengthen and expand services for orphans and other vulnerable children (OVC).
