AWARE Programs Reach 18 Countries
Funded by USAID, from 2003 through 2008, AWARE works in 18 countries of the West Africa region: Benin, Burkina Faso, Cameroon, Cape Verde, Chad, Cote d'Ivoire, Gambia, Ghana, Guinea, Guinea-Bissau, Liberia, Mali, Mauritania, Niger, Nigeria, Senegal, Sierra Leone and Togo.
AWARE Keeps Narrow Focus for Best Results
The project focuses its main activities on:
- Dissemination of Promising and Best Practices in STI/HIV/AIDS
- Advocacy for policy change
- Capacity building of regional institutions and networks
- Development of health sector reforms
FHI Leads AWARE Program From Ghana
The program is led by Family Health International (FHI), the management team is based in Accra, Ghana, and supported by two international partners: The Futures Group International (TFGI) and Population Services International (PSI).
AWARE-HIV/AIDS is also supported by five Associate Partners:
- Bureau d'Appui en Santé Publique'96 (BASP'96) in Burkina Faso
- Care and Health Program (CHP) in Cameroon
- John Hopkins Program for Information and Education Gynecologists and Obstetricians (JHPIEGO) in the USA
- Centre Hospitalier Universitaire de Sherbrooke (CHUS) and Centre Hospitalier Affilié Universitaire de Québec (CHA) in Canada
