New Partnership Reaches Cocoa Farmers in Côte d'Ivoire, Ghana
JUNE 2007 — Family Health International (FHI), the World Cocoa Foundation (WCF) and National Confectioners Association (NCA) have joined forces to reduce the spread of HIV/AIDS and malaria in Côte d'Ivoire and Ghana. The new partnership is working with cocoa farmers, their families and agricultural communities in cocoa-growing regions of both countries to increase awareness and strengthen prevention of HIV/AIDS and malaria.

The Road to HIV Awareness: The Cross-Border Caravan Against Stigma and Discrimination
NOVEMBER 2005 — Dec. 1 marked the 18th annual World AIDS Day, themed "Stop AIDS. Keep the promise." For a group of 20 West Africans, World AIDS Day also marked their third full week traveling the dusty roads of their region as part of a caravan conducting a vast, six-country HIV awareness campaign.

Mauritania Launches PMTCT Services
NOVEMBER 2005 — The AWARE program organized a study tour for two reproductive health providers aimed to minimize mother-to-child transmission (MTCT). An action plan was produced and finalized, resulting in the first prevention of mother-to-child transmission of HIV (PMTCT) site launched in December 2005

AWARE Offers Week of Free HIV Testing to Youth in Togo
DECEMBER 2004 — The West African Ambassador's Funds Program supported a week of free HIV testing for youth in Lomé, Togo. The project launched on Dec. 3 at Lycée Technique Aidiogomé high school as part of World AIDS Day celebrations. U.S. Ambassador Gregory Engle, representatives of the Ministry of Health and the Director of AWARE HIV/AIDS attended the launch event, which drew nearly 300 students.

AWARE, FBO Team to Launch PMTCT Center
DECEMBER 2004 — On Nov. 23, the Cameroon Baptist Convention Health Board and USAID's Action for West Africa Region HIV/AIDS Project (AWARE-HIV/AIDS) made official their collaboration to promote the expansion of the convention's life saving prevention of mother-to-child transmission of HIV program throughout West Africa.

AWARE, WAHO, CERPOD Host Workshop on Regional Policy
MAY 2004 — More than 50 leaders, government authorities, technical experts and representatives of key civil society institutions and networks concerned with HIV/AIDS in West and Central Africa met 26-29 April in Accra, Ghana, to develop a policy agenda to address the spread of AIDS in the region. A large number of AWARE-HIV/AIDS Project representatives attended the important workshop.

AWARE-HIV/AIDS Works Across Borders
MAY 2004 — AWARE-HIV/AIDS organized a workshop focusing on cross-border transportation routes and the impact of HIV/AIDS on the migratory populations and communities dependent upon and located near these routes. From April 21-23, in Lomé, Togo, this regional workshop set the stage for the international cooperation and coordination necessary for these critical activities.

AWARE-HIV/AIDS Supports the CCMs
MAY 2004 — Representatives of the Country Coordinating Mechanisms of 14 West African countries and other key stakeholders recently signed a "social contract" to pursue activities at the regional level and endorse two regional proposals for submission to the Global Fund for AIDS, Tuberculosis, and Malaria.
