FHI/PNG Hosts Seminars on the Prevention-to-Care Continuum, STIs
MARCH 2008 — Last month FHI/PNG hosted a seminar in Port Moresby on the continuum of prevention to care, in collaboration with the National Capital District Provincial AIDS Committee Secretariat. Nearly 100 participants attended on behalf of key partners in the government and private sector, national and provincial NGOs, and faith- and community-based organizations. In January, FHI/PNG hosted a seminar on STIs.

FHI/PNG offers technical assistance and training in a range of areas, including behavior change communication, palliative care, rapid needs assessments, and behavioral studies that evaluate interventions to reduce HIV prevalence and mortality rates. FHI/PNG also works to increase access to health services for those infected with HIV or at risk of infection, and supports other projects that provide care and support for people living with AIDS and decrease the discrimination and stigma that they encounter.

Final Report for IMPACT Project in Papua New Guinea Released

AUGUST 2007 — From 2004 to 2007, The IMPACT Project contributed to the national effort to reduce the spread of HIV and mitigate its effects in Papua New Guinea. The project's behavior change communication programs and prevention activities targeted at-risk populations and linked them with health services. IMPACT also built local capacity to implement behavioral studies that inform interventions, trained peer educators, and supported self-care for people living with AIDS.
