Family Health International (FHI) is pleased to announce the debut of a television serial as part of the behavior change communication strategy of IMPACT Project in Nigeria. The television serial titled Behind the Siege is produced by Tade Ogidan of OGD Productions with funding from the United States Agency for International Development (USAID) through FHI's IMPACT Project.
Behind the Siege highlights the moral and social problems posed by the HIV/AIDS epidemic in Nigeria. The serial provides information on facts about HIV and AIDS with emphasis on changing behaviors to decrease individuals' risk of infection; such as reducing unprotected sex, and promoting mutual fidelity in marriage. It highlights these issues taking into consideration the socio-cultural and religious aspects of life in Nigeria. The programming further encourages viewers to seek additional information about HIV/AIDS, including voluntary counseling and testing, prevention of mother-to-child-transmission, safe blood transfusion, relationship between TB and HIV/AIDS, discrimination against PLWHA, sexual violence and workplace programs.
The first episode of the serial made its debut on Friday, June 4, 2004 on local Nigerian television.
