Injecting drug users (IDUs) can be found in various locations in Dharan. This study has estimated about 900 IDUs from 39 sites of which only 22 were females. Unlike in other towns of Nepal, they often gather in loose groups and share drugs and injecting equipments with group members because of peer pressure and self-curiosity. Knowledge about STIs and HIV/AIDS.

Condom use among these IDUs is relatively higher but not universal. As the IDUs in Dharan possess a misconception that their injection and sexual partners are free from HIV infections, they are not likely to adopt preventive measure consistently. Thus, IDUs in Dharan seem to be at risk of contracting and spreading HIV/AIDS to their partners.
