NOVEMBER 2007 — FHI/Nepal has adapted a series of care and support booklets and brochures produced by FHI/Cambodia for people living with HIV/AIDS and their families. The materials were contextualized with the help of people living with AIDS in Nepal. Published in Nepalese, they are simple to read and use and can be used separately. The series comprises five booklets and accompanying brochures. One sample, the staying healthy brochure, is attached below.

FHI Publishes Final Report for IMPACT Project in Nepal
SEPTEMBER 2007 — The IMPACT Project was USAID/Nepal's primary mechanism for providing technical assistance to the Government of Nepal for HIV/AIDS prevention, care, and support from May 2001 to March 2007. Using three main implementation strategies of Safe Highways, Safe Cities, and Safe Migration, FHI worked in partnership with more than 50 implementing agencies.

National Rollout Plan for HIV/AIDS Care and Treatment in Nepal
SEPTEMBER 2005 — Nepal is well regarded for its strong, community-rooted HIV prevention work. Less momentum, however, has existed in the area of HIV care, treatment and support there. In recognizing this gap, the National Center for AIDS and STD Control commissioned a team of international and domestic experts to determine the care and support services Nepal needs and to recommend where care resources should be focused in the coming years. The subsequent recommendations made by the HIV/AIDS Treatment, Care and Support Design Team were based on the priority care and support areas outlined in the National HIV/AIDS Strategy (2002– 2006) for Nepal.

Stigma Study Examines Views of PLHA and Community
JANUARY 2005 — Stigma and Discrimination in Nepal: Community Attitudes, and the Forms and Consequences for People Living with HIV/AIDS (PLHA) examines stigma and discrimination through the findings of two studies. The first is an exploration of HIV-negative community members' attitudes and fears about contact with PLHA. The second study presents how PLHA experience stigma and discrimination within their families, communities and health care settings.

First National Estimates of Adult HIV Infections in Nepal Released
SEPTEMBER 2004 — National Estimates of Adult HIV Infections, Nepal, 2003, offers detailed estimates of adult HIV infection for the first time in Nepal. In total, National Estimates reports about 60,000 adult HIV cases. Nearly half of all HIV cases in the study were found in the major highway districts. Those at most risk of HIV infection were seasonal labor migrant workers, followed by female sex workers and injection drug users.
