FHI/Namibia works to mitigate the impact of HIV/AIDS in the country through programs targeting the Namibian population in general as well the workforce, youth, pregnant women, children orphaned or made vulnerable by HIV/AIDS, and local governments.
At the national level, FHI supports the Ministry of Health and Social Services and Ministry of Women's Affairs and Child Welfare. At the regional level, FHI works primarily with local AIDS services organizations, faith-based hospitals and national and local government authorities. Read about FHI's various programs below.
The Community Faith-Based Regional Initiative for Orphans and Other Vulnerable Children (FABRIC)
FABRIC is a five-year partnership between FHI and three umbrella faith-based organizations in Namibia, South Africa and Zambia. The objective of the program is to strengthen and expand services for orphans and other vulnerable children (OVC). The initiative uses sustainable strategies to provide comprehensive OVC care and support.
Reaching Youth
The youth program targets youth to build their capacity to avoid unsafe sexual practices and to cope with the impact of HIV/AIDS. Learn more »

The workplace program builds the capacity of local nongovernmental organizations and institutions to provide comprehensive HIV/AIDS workplace programs to the private, public, and state and local government sectors. Learn more »

The capacity-building program for municipalities is aimed at ensuring that selected municipalities are equipped with the knowledge, skills, and resources they need to be able to respond to HIV/AIDS. Learn more »

President's International Mother and Child HIV Prevention Initiative
The prevention of mother-to-child transmission initiative benefits pregnant women, their infants and families by building the capacity of faith-based hospitals and their church or community-based affiliates to provide comprehensive HIV/AIDS and maternal and child health services (VCT, PMTCT, treatment etc.) in predominantly rural areas.
