Behavior Change Interventions

Assessments in Malawi have showed that the country needs behavior change communication (BCC) interventions to address the prevalent cultural values and beliefs that can put people at risk for HIV infection.

Since 1999, USAID/Malawi has funded a behavior change specialist to assist the National AIDS Control Program (NACP) in developing and implementing a behavior change strategy and strengthening the capacity of nongovernmental organizations.

HIV Prevention Trials Network

Through the HIV Prevention Trials Network (HPTN), FHI is working with U.S.-based researchers and the HIV Prevention Trials Units (HPTUs) in Malawi. Also through the HPTN, Johns Hopkins University and the University of North Carolina are collaborating with the HPTUs in Blantyre and Lilongwe to develop and implement clinical trials and related studies of HIV prevention interventions.
