The Catalyzing Capacity Series
November 2005 — FHI has implemented the USAID-funded IMPACT Project in Kenya since 1999, working with the government, non-governmental and community groups in HIV and AIDS prevention, care and treatment, and advocacy. One of FHI's major areas of technical assistance is building organizations' capacity to address new issues and create new programs. Five years ago voluntary counseling and testing (VCT), for example, was just beginning in Kenya, now it is an established program. The Catalyzing Capacity series addresses how FHI helped in the process. FHI has built Kenyan HIV/AIDS organizations' capacity in many areas: antiretroviral therapy (ART), prevention of mother-to-child transmission (PMTCT), pediatric AIDS, and workplace programs. This series chronicles FHI's contribution and show the progress of the HIV and AIDS programs in Kenya.
