FHI Partners with Pfizer to Fight Malaria in Ghana

AUGUST 2007 — FHI is partnering with Pfizer Inc. and the Ghana Social Marketing Foundation to reduce Ghana's high rates of malaria-related illness and death, particularly among pregnant women and children under five. FHI's approach includes working with licensed sellers of over-the-counter drugs to improve symptom recognition, referral, and treatment for malaria. FHI also uses behavior change communication and social mobilization to increase malaria symptom recognition and overall health-seeking behaviors among pregnant women and the general community.xxx

FHI Supports Clinical Research on Malaria Treatments

FHI is supporting the Medicines for Malaria Venture (MMV) in their Phase III effort to find safe and effective treatment for malaria patients. This work involves drug clinical trials in Ghana, Mozambique, Cameroon, Malawi, DRC (Congo), Tanzania, Mali, Gabon and Kenya. 

FHI Partners with Hewlett on Contraceptive Research

With support from the Hewlett Foundation, researchers at FHI are studying whether packaging emergency contraceptive pills with regular contraceptive pills provides incentive for women to adopt a regular contraceptive method.

New Partnership Will Reach Cocoa Farmers in Ghana, Côte d'Ivoire

Cocoa podsJUNE 2007 — Family Health International (FHI), the World Cocoa Foundation (WCF) and National Confectioners Association (NCA) have joined forces to reduce the spread of HIV/AIDS and malaria in Ghana and Côte d'Ivoire. The new partnership is working with cocoa farmers, their families and agricultural communities in cocoa-growing regions of both countries to increase awareness and strengthen prevention of HIV/AIDS and malaria.
