Eritrea

From 2000 to 2005, FHI managed the IMPACT Project in Eritrea, working closely with the Ministry of Health (MOH) to establish, then improve and scale up national HIV/AIDS prevention, care and support services for those most at risk of infection.

In collaboration with the MOH's Health Promotion Center, FHI and  partner PATH designed and initiated "Winning through Caring," Eritrea's national communication strategy for HIV/AIDS and STIs. FHI also helped the MOH's National HIV/AIDS/STI and TB Control Division expand counseling and testing services nationwide and ensure service quality through routine supervision, adherence to standard guidelines and the use of training curricula.

During the last phase of IMPACT in Eritrea, FHI helped the MOH prepare health personnel and clinics to deliver antiretroviral therapy and link clinical care for people living with HIV/AIDS to ongoing care and support resources in the community. FHI also trained staff from the MOH and other local partners to collect and use monitoring data for decision-making, program management and advocacy.
