JUNE 2001 — The Egyptian National Blood Transfusion Service (NBTS), along with FHI experts, has released the Safe Blood Communication Guide. The guide is targeted towards improving the ability of blood bank staff to communicate effectively with potential blood donors. To ensure proper use of the communication guide, a training-of-trainers manual was also produced.

The communication guide was produced in response to the need of having blood bank staff be a reliable source of information for blood donors. The guidelines cover issues such as counseling, confidentiality, varying types of blood donors, and medical factors to be considered during blood donation. The 106-page guide also provides standardized responses to common questions about blood donation. The guide is available in Arabic only.
