Research Fuels Expansion of VCT Services
JANUARY 2004 — The formation of RedPAV, a national network of voluntary counseling and testing (VCT) sites, shows how research can fuel the rapid expansion of HIV/AIDS services. In 2002, Macro International asked IMPACT to provide VCT services as part of its Demographic and Health Survey. This effort, which later evolved into RedPAV, provided an opportunity to expand and improve VCT services for all, not just study participants. As of January 2004, more than 63,000 individuals in the Dominican Republic have received VCT services at RedPAV sites.

FHI Leads Conecta Project
FHI was awarded a five-year, $35 million contract from USAID to assist in overhauling and strengthening the Dominican Republic's HIV/AIDS programming, reproductive health, and child survival. FHI, the institutional contractor for the project, teamed with two main partners, Abt Associates, Inc., and the Dominican Agencia Latinoamericana de Expertos en Planificacion H (ALEPH) to complete the project.
