FHI's Collaboration Boosts Access to Critical Health Services, Builds Local Capacity OCTOBER 2006 — FHI, the U.S. President's Emergency Plan for AIDS Relief and the United Nations Development Program Global Fund have been working together since May 2006 to provide comprehensive HIV/AIDS prevention, care and treatment services at three government hospitals, located in Bukavu, Matadi and Lubumbashi.
On the Front: HIV/AIDS and the Uniformed Services
SEPTEMBER 2005 — Uniformed personnel are trained to take risks, a behavior that can carry over into their personal lives and increase their risk of contracting and transmitting HIV. This issue of Snapshots from the Field highlights FHI's efforts to advance HIV prevention programs for the uniformed services.
HIV Test Kits, Condoms Given to VCT Sites MAY 2004 — Last month FHI received 300,000 condoms from USAID for distribution at our six VCT sites in the Democratic Republic of the Congo. That same month, the U.S. Centers for Disease Control donated rapid test kits. FHI trained 15 lab technicians to screen for HIV using the kits. The kits enable clients to receive their HIV test results the same day, rather than having to wait 10 days. Officials are confident the rapid test kits will increase the number of clients who return to the clinic for their HIV test results.
