FHI Sponsors Health Conference Focuses on China
JANUARY 2008 — FHI is a sponsor of "Global Health Forum, Health Crises and Disparities: Working Together on Solutions," a conference organized by Peking University and the University of North Carolina (PKU-UNC) that takes place Jan. 30–Feb. 1, at the Carolina Club of the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. Scholars, policymakers, and representatives of the private sector will address issues relating to health reform in China and the United States. FHI Country Director Dr. Cheng Feng will deliver a keynote speech on HIV prevention in China.

Project To Support Strategic Capacity of China National AIDS Program
JUNE 2005 — FHI is leading the China AIDS Road Map Technical Support (CHARTS) Project, a consortium of organizations providing technical resources for strategic capacity building to develop China's national response to HIV/AIDS. The CHARTS Project will work with Chinese government counterparts, such as the State Council AIDS Working Committee Office and United Nations agencies, to improve strategic management of the country's HIV/AIDS activities, carry out national policy initiatives and provide free care and treatment. The effort is supported by funding from the UK's Department for International Development (DFID).

DFID Supports HIV/AIDS Programs in China
The UK's Department for International Development (DFID) is supporting an impressive variety of activities in an attempt to halt the rapidly rising HIV-infection rate in China. It has established a Technical Resource Center in Beijing which has tapped the knowledge of 100 international experts in the following areas: harm reduction; program management; VCT, ART & HIV clinical management; behavior change communication; blood safety; surveillance; strategic planning; and STI management. DFID is also promoting FHI's Expanded Comprehensive Response (ECR) concept, which the government of China has incorporated into 127 HIV/AIDS health care sites nation-wide. FHI provides technical assistance, training, and materials to 37 ECR sites in Yunnan and Sichuan. DFID-supported FHI interventions in the Yunnan and Sichuan provinces target at-risk and vulnerable populations.
