Brazil

From 1998 through 2001, FHI managed the IMPACT Project in Brazil, strengthening the capacity of the Ministry of Health, the National STI/AIDS Control Program and local partners to implement HIV/AIDS programs in the states of Ceará, Bahia, São Paulo and Rio de Janeiro.
 
FHI and its partner, Management Sciences for Health, assessed the technical capacity and management needs of public sector programs, developing action plans and customized technical assistance for them. The partners also organized critically needed technical training courses and contributed to strategic and development planning at the national level. In addition, John Snow Inc. completed a sustainability study of NGOs with FHI support.

Brazilian Group Releases 'HIV Prevention Door to Door' Book

OCTOBER 2004 — The Associação Saúde da Família, together with Family Health International and the Municipal Health Department of São Paulo, has published the book AIDS: Prevention Door to Door: Creating Stories on the Prevention of HIV/AIDS in the Family Health Program in the City of São Paulo. Written mainly by community health agents, the book describes innovative and creative interventions regarding HIV/AIDS prevention within the communities of Brazil.

IMPACT

The IMPACT Project worked with the national government and public sector programs at the community level to strengthen care and support systems, prevent HIV transmission, and promote behavior change.
