Bangladesh AIDS Program (BAP)

From 2000–2005, FHI implemented USAID's IMPACT Project in Bangladesh. Since July 2005, FHI has managed USAID's Bangladesh AIDS Program (BAP), working with 21 local organizations and NGOs on 23 projects to provide a strong, coherent approach to outreach among the most vulnerable. BAP is scaling up and integrating HIV prevention efforts and provision of clinical services. Drop-in centers—branded as Modhumita—provide health services for vulnerable populations in strategic HIV and AIDS "hotspots".

BAP's Modhumita Drop-In Centers Provide Quality Health Services

Modhu means honey and Mita means friend, so Modhumita is "a sweet friend." The brand name speaks to patients' need for belonging, caring and trust. A client-driven referral network enables a targeted approach. Modhumita signifies quality, confidentiality and privacy. Visitors to Modhumita drop-in centers find a friendly, relaxed, and respectful staff. Centers focus on prevention, treatment and rehabilitation with the aim of returning each patient to a healthy, productive life. As of September 2006, the brand name is associated with 51 drop-in center serving those most vulnerable to HIV and AIDS throughout Bangladesh. By September 2008, one hundred drop-in centers will belong to the Modhumita network.
