JUNE 2006 — FHI's work with mobile people in Asia began in the early 1990s, with HIV/AIDS prevention programming and surveillance among truckers in India and Nepal. Since then, FHI has pioneered numerous regional and single-country mobility and HIV/AIDS initiatives across South and Southeast Asia.
This document recounts the experiences and themes that have emerged from over a decade of mobility and AIDS programming in the Asia region. It outlines lessons learned on: prioritizing sites, identifying vulnerable populations, developing model interventions, fostering a regional and national response, creating enabling environments, and evaluating the response.
