Family Health International

Overview

Family Health International staff around the globe advance our mission through research and public health programs.

The Research group, based in Research Triangle Park, NC, provides a full range of research and research services, including technical assistance in research utilization. This group conducts behavioral, biomedical and health services research in support of numerous global health priorities, including contraception, reproductive health, HIV, malaria, rotavirus, and other infectious diseases, such as avian influenza.

Our Public Health Programs (PHP) group, based in Washington, implements programs and conducts applied research in some 60 developing countries. PHP emphasizes innovation in preventing HIV infection, tuberculosis, and other illnesses, as well as in the care, support, and treatment of those already infected. Both divisions offer a variety of products and services that enable FHI to help meet some of the world's most challenging public health demands.

FHI's work in research and public health programs is further advanced by these three groups:

• Global Operations, which is responsible for managing our country and regional activities worldwide
• Global Shared Services, which coordinates our internal systems and infrastructure, including our travel, finance, human resources, and information technology functions
• External Relations, which leads our efforts to develop and maintain relationships with partner organizations, funders, and the media

In addition, FHI is affiliated with Novella Clinical, a for-profit contract research organization that specializes in internet-based management of clinical trials conducted at multiple study sites.

FHI is led by an 11-member Executive Team under the direction of a Board of Directors. Our multinational staff, many of whom are proficient in two or more languages, offer a broad range of technical and managerial skills. Our scientific staff publish in leading peer-reviewed journals, and senior staff members serve on advisory bodies of national agencies and multilateral organizations.

The majority of FHI staff are based in field offices in developing countries worldwide. Headquartered in Research Triangle Park, we maintain management centers in Bangkok, Nairobi, and Washington.
