CEO Albert J. Siemens Elected Chair of FHI Board of Directors -- May 16, 2006

Research Triangle Park, NC — Albert J. Siemens, PhD, the Chief Executive Officer of Family Health International (FHI), has been elected Chair of the Board of Directors, succeeding R. Peyton Woodson, III.

Mr. Woodson, a former insurance executive in Raleigh and Chair of FHI's Board since 2003, was elected Chair of the Board's Audit Committee. Mr. Edward Whitehorne of Apex was elected Chair of the Board's Executive Committee.

Dr. Siemens joined FHI in 1983 as Director of Clinical Trials, then served as Vice President of Research, responsible for the organization's multinational clinical studies. During Dr. Siemens' tenure, FHI has become one of the most successful nongovernmental organizations in the world conducting research and implementing effective interventions in HIV/AIDS. FHI also provides technical services and conducts research on reproductive health and infectious diseases with partners in more than 70 countries.

In 1986, Dr. Siemens was instrumental in the formation of Clinical Research International (CRI), an affiliate of FHI that provided clinical research services to medical companies. He served as its President until it was sold in 1990 to ClinTrials Research, Inc. He served as Executive Vice President of ClinTrials Research, Inc. from 1991 to 1997, and in 1998, rejoined FHI as its Chief Executive Officer.

Mr. Woodson was first elected to FHI's Board in 1982. In addition to serving on the Board's Audit Committee, Mr. Woodson is a member of the Board's Executive Committee. Currently, he chairs Enterprise Holdings Proprietary, Inc. in Raleigh, North Carolina.

Mr. Whitehorne, elected to FHI's Board in 2000, has been an active member of the angel investment community for almost 15 years. He previously directed information systems for Family Health International and was a co-founder of ClinTrials Research, Inc.
