FHI Announces New Fellowship Program for Selected UNC SPH Students -- January 31, 2005

Research Triangle Park, NC — Family Health International (FHI) in collaboration with the UNC School of Public Health, Office of Global Health, has established a fellowship program for doctoral and second year master's students.  This exciting fellowship program will expand the opportunities for students to work alongside some of the world's public health experts who have years of experience in global health.  "As the world grows more interdependent, and infectious diseases can travel around the globe in hours, the need for public health scientists with experience in international health becomes more pressing than ever.  We're proud to be able to offer this fellowship opportunity to the new leaders in global health," said Willard Cates, MD, MPH, president and CEO of the FHI Institute for Family Health.

FHI will support selected students to work part-time at FHI, gaining knowledge and practical experience on research projects in areas such as HIV/AIDS, infectious diseases, reproductive health, maternal, child, and adolescent health.

"This is a great opportunity for all involved," said Cates.  "We look forward to working with the first recipients of these fellowships."

FHI is dedicated to improving lives, knowledge and understanding worldwide through a highly diversified program of research, education and services in family health. Since 1971, we have worked with governments and communities to meet the public health needs of some of the world's most vulnerable people.  FHI has offices in 38 countries.
